The majority of our ceiling coving has the beauty, surface texture and fine detail of plaster, but is made from modern materials that are lightweight, pre-primed and not brittle. This makes them much easier and quicker to install than plaster, and less prone to damage. But we have no axe to grind as we sell plaster decorative coving, plaster cornice and other plaster mouldings, too.

How to Fit coving and mouldings

Before you get started

Interior architectural mouldings made from plaster were popular in Victorian times as simple mouldings in modest houses, but ornate cornices and coving were originally designed to highlight the great wealth of 17th and 18th-century stately home owners.

Coving in modern homes is often very simple but still fulfils the same function. It is moulded in many styles and is used to disguise where wall and ceiling joins, or as a decorative border at the junction.

A cornice is a moulding similar to those used for coving, but it extends into the room like a ledge, the meaning of cornice in Italian. Modern cornice and coving is mostly made from plastic or polystyrene, but plaster is still available. Coving adhesive is mostly used to fix these mouldings to walls and ceilings.

Ready-made embellishments range from ceiling centres to wall medallions and can quickly be added to transform a room. Panel mouldings can be applied around ceilings and walls to great effect, or used to frame and highlight a picture. Moulded rails can be used to divide, create pattern or match a wall. Alternatively, they can be painted in subtly different shades or make a statement with bold, strongly contrasting colour.

A ceiling rose makes a dramatic focal point. It can easily be combined with a spectacular light fitting or simply used alone. Uplighters and other imaginatively moulded light fittings can be decorated to blend into a wall, or be designed to stand out.
